Newborough East Primary School takes pride in its well-being offering. Team members have designed and run a holistic program that supports students and the wider school community. Well-being services and programs include nutrition, access to ancillary health providers, therapeutic activities, social support, cultural and social inclusion, leadership opportunities and overall positive well-being.

Well-being activities are available to all members of the school community and can be accessed upon request or engaged in consultation with stakeholders.

Breakfast Club – NEPS offer breakfast club three days a week. Students are offered a large variety of healthy foods provided by Foodbank and the school community to get them started for the day. Breakfast Club runs on Mondays and Tuesdays from 8am to 8.30am. This is an opportunity for positive social interactions between students before their day begins.

Art Therapy – In 2017 the school was fortunate to welcome Darcie White as an Art Therapist. This opportunity has been made available to many students. NEPS understand that many young people have been through difficult times in their lives for a number of different reasons. Having an Art Therapy Program allows these students to spend time doing something they enjoy in a therapeutic environment allowing them to talk through their worries by expressing them through art.

Therapy in School – Available during designated times are occupational therapists, psychologists and a counsellor providing play therapy. The welfare team provides ongoing support to families and assist with accessing these opportunities.

Respectful Relationships Initiative – In 2017 NEPS became a partner school in the Respectful Relationships initiative. This initiative has come following research, and recommendations from the Royal Commission Into Family Violence. Staff, parents and students will be actively taking part in this initiative in an effort to promote the prevention of violence against women. Staff access ongoing professional development, and the school offers parent information sessions and celebrates many events that promote our commitment to this important initiative.

Koori Inclusion – NEPS is committed to supporting Koori students in their learning and provides culturally safe support to extended families where needed. The school seeks wider inclusion through activities, artwork, flags and ongoing conversation. Staff provide support to better meet the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and their families and regularly attend training opportunities to learn more, and further enhance, their cultural knowledge and inclusion.

Out of Home Care Support – The school’s welfare team works closely with support agencies to meet the needs of students who currently reside in out of home care. Regular training is attended and support meetings are held to ensure these students are being provided with the best opportunities possible.

The Well-being Team is available during school hours and can be reached via the contact page.
